Paul Green will forever be remembered as one of Rugby League’s fiercest competitors — a man of immense drive, intelligence, and care for those around him.
But beyond the premierships, medals, and headlines, Paul’s greatest legacy may not be found on the field — it lives on every day through the people and programs he inspired, especially Wellness Green.
Paul’s journey through Rugby League was one of relentless pursuit of excellence.
A halfback by trade, he was small in stature but uncompromising in attitude — playing over a decade at the top level across clubs including Cronulla, the Cowboys, the Roosters, and the Eels, while representing Queensland in State of Origin and Australia on the international stage.
After his playing career, Paul transitioned seamlessly into coaching. His analytical mind and deep understanding of people quickly made him one of the most respected coaches in the game.
In 2015, he guided the North Queensland Cowboys to their first-ever NRL Premiership — a moment etched forever in the history of the sport.
But for Paul, success was never just about trophies. It was about people.
He cared deeply for the wellbeing, mindset, and personal growth of his players — believing that performance only comes when the person is supported first.
After decades in elite sport, Paul recognised something powerful: The same pressures that professional athletes face — long hours, fatigue, stress, and time away from family — were mirrored in industries like construction, mining and infrastructure. Workers on major projects deal with enormous pressure to perform, constant deadlines, and environments that test both body and mind.
Founded by Paul and shaped by his philosophy, Wellness Green is a data-driven wellbeing and performance program designed to help individuals and teams identify issues early, build resilience, and enhance both wellbeing and productivity.
At its core, the program mirrors the coaching principles that guided Paul’s approach to sport — measure what matters, build trust through connection, and act before problems escalate.
In partnership with the University of Queensland, research confirmed what Paul had always believed — improvements in wellbeing lead directly to improvements in performance, safety, and culture. Even small gains in individual wellness created significant flow-on effects across entire teams and projects.
Paul’s genius lay in his ability to see potential — in people, in systems, and in ideas.
He understood that the habits that drive success in sport — discipline, recovery, mindset, and self-awareness — are just as vital on a worksite or in an office. Every time a worker records their sleep score, every time a leader checks in with their crew about stress, or a project manager uses data to identify fatigue trends — they’re continuing Paul’s work.
Through Wellness Green, Paul’s philosophy now supports thousands of people across Australia’s infrastructure and construction projects, helping them to perform at their best, both on and off the job.
Paul Green was more than a player and coach — he was a leader, a thinker, a family man, and a mentor.
He left behind a blueprint for how to perform under pressure and how to care for those who make performance possible. His legacy is a living one — a program that continues to support mental health, resilience, and human connection across industries far beyond Rugby League.
Every success story within Wellness Green reflects Paul’s vision — that when you look after the person, performance will always follow.
